Kathy Kane è un personaggio dei fumetti creato da Bob
Kane e Sheldon Moldoff in Detective Comics n. 233 nel 1956.
Indossa il costume di Batwoman.
L'incarnazione
moderna di Batwoman è Kate Kane, che appare per la prima
volta durante la settimana 7 della maxi-serie 52 (2006). Opera
a Gotham City durante l'assenza di Batman a causa degli eventi
di Infinite Crisis (2005). Questa moderna Batwoman è
omosessuale, in quanto la DC Comics voleva mettere più
diversità nelle sue pubblicazioni.
Kathy
Kane è una cugina di Bruce Wayne. Indossa il costume
di Batwoman per combattere al fianco di Batman, ma Batman cerca
di dissuaderla. Più tardi, collaborerà con Betty
Kane, sua nipote, che indossa il costume di Batgirl. Mentre
Kathy si innamora di Batman, Betty ha occhi solo per Robin (Dick
Grayson).
Dopo la
partenza di Betty, Kathy si allea con la nuova Batgirl, Barbara
Gordon. Mentre Batman si avvicina sempre di più a Catwoman1,
Kathy Kane si ritira dal mezzo dei supereroi. Viene lasciata
morta da Bronze Tiger, un membro della League of Shadows, una
squadra di cattivi guidati da Ra's al Ghul.
L'originale
Batwoman appare durante l'età dell'argento. Appare per
la prima volta in Detective Comics n. 233 (luglio 1956) 5. Come
Batman, ha combattuto il crimine. Bob Kane ha spiegato di essere
stato ispirato da sua moglie a disegnare Batwoman. Il fatto
che lui l'abbia chiamata "Kathy Kane" conferma questa
teoria. Tuttavia, i "disegnatori di ombre" di Kane,
Sheldon Moldoff e Dick Sprang, che hanno lavorato a Batman negli
anni '50, hanno messo in discussione la reale influenza che
Bob Kane ha avuto nelle storie di Batman.
