American Horror Story (a volte abbreviato in AHS) è
una serie televisiva di antologia dell'antro americana creata
da Ryan Murphy e Brad Falchuk. Ogni stagione è concepita
come una miniserie autonoma, seguendo un diverso set di personaggi
e ambientazioni, e una trama con il suo "inizio, metà
e fine". Alcuni elementi della trama di ogni stagione sono
liberamente ispirati a eventi veri. Gli unici attori presenti
in tutte le iterazioni sono Evan Peters e Sarah Paulson con
Lily Rabe e Frances Conroy che appaiono in tutte le stagioni
tranne una.
American Horror Story: Murder House
Ambientato nell'anno 2011, la stagione segue gli Harmons, composti
dalla moglie e madre Vivien (Connie Britton), dal marito psichiatra
Ben (Dylan McDermott) e dalla loro figlia adolescente Violet
(Taissa Farmiga), mentre si spostano da Boston a Los Angeles
per ricominciare da capo dopo che l'aborto di Vivien portò
Ben ad avere una relazione con uno dei suoi studenti, che quasi
stroncò la loro famiglia. Si trasferiscono in una villa
restaurata e presto incontrano la governante della residenza,
Moira O'Hara (Frances Conroy e Alexandra Breckenridge), così
come i loro vicini di casa - l'eccentrica famiglia Langdon composta
da Constance (Jessica Lange) e sua figlia Adelaide (Jamie Brewer)
. Le vite degli Harmons sono turbate dalle intricate Langdons,
dall'incompetente agente immobiliare Marcy (Christine Estabrook),
così come dallo sfigurato Larry Harvey (Denis O'Hare),
un ex residente della villa che è segretamente innamorato
di Costanza, e il disprezzato Hayden McClaine (Kate Mara), ex
allievo di Ben che lo segue a Los Angeles dopo aver deciso di
non abortire il bambino che era il risultato della relazione
tra lei e Ben. Ben e Vivien provano a riaccendere la loro relazione
mentre Violet, che soffre di depressione, trova conforto in
Tate (Evan Peters), il fantasma del figlio psicopatico di Costanza
che è stato ucciso dopo aver ucciso diversi studenti
a Westfield High in una sparatoria a scuola. La famiglia scopre
presto che la casa è infestata dai fantasmi di chiunque
sia mai morto nella proprietà, compresi i suoi creatori
Charles (Matt Ross) e Nora Montgomery (Lily Rabe); e il loro
deforme figlio Thaddeus (Ben Woolf) che a volte viene chiamato
"Infantata". I flashback raffigurano i proprietari
di case precedenti della villa per tutto il secolo scorso, risalenti
alla sua costruzione negli anni '20.
